From the Hellenic Navy to Fly In Greece

Yannis tells Travel Weekly that his aviation career began in 2005 as an avionics technician in the Hellenic Navy. From 2009 he served on helicopters, as an aircrewman and as an officer in the helicopter operations department — the source of the precision and operational discipline he brings to the business today.

Years of flying over the islands showed him a Greece most visitors never see, and in 2021 he founded Fly In Greece. He describes the team as aviators rather than an investor-led company, with one goal: to make people fall in love with Greece.

How island demand is changing

After the post-COVID boom of 2021 and 2022, when Mykonos dominated, he sees travellers moving to quieter, more authentic islands: Milos, Sifnos, Folegandros, Paros and Naxos in the Cyclades, Meganisi, Ithaca and Corfu in the Ionian, and Halki and Tilos in the Dodecanese — places where the ferry alone can take days.

Australian clients are mostly couples and families, and many come back every year.

Three ways Australians use the helicopter

A direct transfer from Athens to the islands in as little as an hour; island hopping between several islands in one trip; or a commercial flight into Mykonos or Santorini followed by a helicopter onward.

In peak summer Fly In Greece manages around 600 to 650 flights, with ground staff meeting clients on each island.

Routes and experiences

The classics — Athens to Sifnos, Paros or Naxos — then short hops from Mykonos and Santorini to Folegandros, Ios, Milos and beyond. Over Santorini, two sightseeing flights of 20 and 30 minutes cover the caldera, Oia and the volcanic island of Nea Kameni.

The Loi Signature Series

The Loi Signature Series is by Erra Travel, created with chef Maria Loi: journeys that combine helicopter transfers by Fly In Greece with cooking and foraging in hidden corners of Greece. To learn more or book, travel advisors can contact Erra Travel at partners@erratravel.com.

He also points to direct landing arrangements at Amanzoe, Four Seasons Athens, Four Seasons Mykonos and the Myconian Collection at Elia.

"…see it the way it was meant to be seen — from above."
His message to travel advisors

Don't underestimate the helicopter — he calls it "the smartest travel decision your clients can make". His focus is speed and precision, from last-minute charters to complex multi-island itineraries, working directly with advisors on routes and aircraft.

Travel advisors can reach Fly In Greece 24/7 through the website, by email at sales@flyincharter.com, or on WhatsApp at +30 697 302 8798.
